Philly Here We Come

Such an exciting time as we embark the train and make our way to P-H-I-L-L-Y! Fishtown, is without a doubt on our list of neighborhoods but more importantly WHY are we venturing to Philly.

We are meeting with an organization called, Gearing-Up.org who provides women in transition from abuse, addiction, and/or incarceration with the skills, equipment, and guidance to safely ride a bicycle for exercise, transportation, and personal growth. The term “women in transition” refers to women who have been formerly incarcerated, have histories of abuse and trauma as kids and/or as adults, have used drugs and/or alcohol as a way to cope with painful experiences and are learning how to live a crime-free sober life with purpose and meaning. 

Feelings right now...I'm excited, a little nervous but honestly, more numb. I've been traveling so much, meeting so many people for the first time (sometimes when they pick me up from the train and take me to their home...! So much trust goes into this project) there are times when I want nothing more than to quit, plant roots, buy myself nice things again and then, comes that time when I think back and it meant absolutely nothing...so here I am again... on another train in another state, meeting people I've never met and walking myself into a prison. have no idea what to expect...
